Injectable Aesthetic Treatments
Aesthetic Treatments are the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the world. Quick, safe and relatively painless, Our Injectable Aesthetic Treatments are non-permanent procedures that relaxes the muscles in your face to reduce frown lines and crow’s feet. You will notice smoother and younger looking skin just a few days after treatment.
Aesthetic Injectable treatments work by blocking signals that cause muscles to contract. This relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles to develop. Treatment takes just a few minutes and you won’t need any anaesthesia. The effects can last for as long as 6 months and any wrinkles that do appear will look less prominent because the muscles are weakening.

What Is Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. It is a very safe and effective treatment that is used for a variety of cosmetic and medical purposes, such as migraines and excessive sweating. Botox® is a licensed brand of Botulinum toxin A. All Botulinum toxins are prescription only medicines (POM) and can only be prescribed by qualified healthcare professionals following a face-to-face assessment and consultation.
How Does It Work?
The toxin works by blocking the movement of chemical messages from the nerve to the muscle. This prevents the muscle from moving. How much movement is restricted will depend on the location and amount of the injectable treatment administered. You will be able to discuss your needs and how this can be achieved during your consultation.
How are our Injectable treatments Used?
Our Injectable treatments are primarily used to prevent the movement of muscles which cause expression lines – otherwise known as frown lines and crow’s feet. Injectable treatments can also be used to restrict muscles in the brow lines, lip lines and mouth corners. Treatment will not cause expression lines to disappear completely and you may still see lines if you make a concerted effort to form an expression. Injectable treatments are most effective for dynamic wrinkles (which are caused by facial movement) and less effective when treating static lines (wrinkles where the face is at rest).
How Long Will Effects Last?
Generally speaking, results last around 3 to 6 months. Movement will start to recover around the 8 week mark. To maintain the results of your treatment, you should only repeat treatment when movement recovers. Regular treatment at intervals less than 3 months is not recommended. If you decide not to schedule regular Injectable aesthetic treatments, your muscles and skin will return to their pre-treatment state.
Is Treatment Painful?
Our Injectable treatments are administered with a very fine needle. The vast majority of patients are able to receive treatment without anaesthetic and report little pain. If you are very nervous about receiving treatment you can use an anaesthetic cream.
What Should I Do Before Treatment?
It is important that you tell us about any medicines or dietary supplements you are taking. Vitamin A, C or E, Gingko Biloba, garlic, fish oils, St. Johns Wort and some pain killing medicines such as aspirin or ibuprofen can increase the risk of bruising occurring. We recommend avoiding these a few days before treatment. You should also avoid drinking alcohol the night before treatment. If you are feeling unwell, you should not receive treatment. You will also need to remove all make-up prior to treatment. Do not re-apply any make-up for at least 12 hours after treatment, to minimise the risk of infection.
What Should I Do After Treatment?
After treatment you should avoid any vigorous exercise, extreme temperatures and lying down for around 4 to 6 hours. You should start to see noticeable results within 2 to 3 days, although it can take slightly longer. We will invite you to attend a review appointment after 2 to 3 weeks, where we can discuss your treatment and make adjustments to your treatment plan if this is required. If you experience any side effects please contact us at Thames Valley Aesthetics. In very rare cases, administering Botulinum toxin can cause Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) which requires immediate medical attention. If you experience difficulty breathing, swelling, pain, nausea or diarrhoea, call emergency services or visit your nearest Accident and Emergency Department.
