Dermal Fillers
As your body ages, changes occur in your skin, fat and muscles. As the skin stretches and loses elasticity this leads to wrinkles, sagging skin and volume loss. Dermal fillers are an injectable treatment that can replenish this lost volume and smooth any lines to create a younger looking appearance.
A number of different chemical compounds can be found in dermal fillers. We use Juvederm® dermal fillers which contain Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring compound that can be found in your skin and cartilage. The effects of Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can last between 6 to 18 months.
Treatment is safe, relatively painless and you will see immediate results. However it may take up to 4 weeks for the fillers to fully integrate into the tissue. Contact us at Thames Valley Aesthetics for more information about our dermal filler treatment in Berkshire.
What Is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is found in all skin and soft tissues. In the UK there are hundreds of dermal fillers, all with their own special formulas. We use Juvederm® dermal fillers, which have a reputation for being one of the best in the market.
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Hyaluronic acid attracts and binds water in the skin which provides volume and hydration. They also cushion and support collagen and elastin fibres in the face.
How Is It Used?
Dermal fillers enhance facial contours particularly the cheeks, temples, jawline, nose and chin. They define lips, soften wrinkles and restore volume. They also reduce the appearance of veins and improve the tone and texture of skin.
Am I Suitable for Treatment?
It is important that you provide us with your medical history and any drugs or supplements you are taking prior to treatment. We will also discuss your expectations and whether dermal fillers are right for your needs.
Do Dermal Fillers Hurt?
Treatment shouldn’t be painful. Juvederm® dermal fillers contain a local anaesthetic and we can also apply an anaesthetic cream should you want this.
What Should I Do Before Treatment?
Vitamin A, C or E, Gingko Biloba, garlic, fish oils, St. Johns Wort and some pain killing medicines such as aspirin or ibuprofen can increase the risk of bruising occurring. We recommend avoiding these a few days before treatment. You will need to remove any make-up prior to treatment. If you have any skin infections such as acne or cold sores then treatment cannot be administered. Please contact us at Thames Valley Aesthetics if you have any medical issues prior to treatment.
What Should I Do After Treatment?
The effects of treatment vary in length but will be between 6 to 18 months. If you decide not to continue with regular scheduled treatment, your skin will return to its pre-treatment state. You should be able to return to most normal activity immediately after treatment, however you may notice redness, pin prick marks or bruising. You should not wear make-up for at least 12 hours. You should also avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, sunbathing and extreme temperatures as these can prolong swelling. Swelling should settle within the first few days, likewise with bruising. You should avoid aspirin and alcohol for at least 48 hours. Please contact us at Thames Valley Aesthetics if you have any unexpected side effects. In very rare cases, administering Hyaluronic acid can cause Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) which requires immediate medical attention. If you experience difficulty breathing, swelling, pain, nausea or diarrhoea, call emergency services or visit your nearest Accident and Emergency Department.
